Testimonials

Testimonials for Groove Theory
Chuck:
I really want to thank you for working with Colin in order to help him prepare for his Jazz Band audition. We are proud to say that he did very well on his audition and starts practicing with his Middle School Jazz Band on Tuesday. Upon discussing his audition, Colin expressed how glad that he was that he has been practicing the pieces from your Groove Theory book. The band director asked the students to play something they had practiced at home, and Colin was lucky to have memorized many of the rhythms from your book. They enabled him to show he could play the type of music the teacher was looking for and therefore helped him play with confidence and earn a position in this year’s Jazz Band. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Lisa H.

To whom it may concern;

After August 11th. 2014 I will have competed approximately 3 years of drum lessons with Chuck Ferrell at Music & Arts. Under his instruction I was able to secure a paid position as drummer for Grace Presbyterian Church with skill and confidence. In 2013 I auditioned and competed for the Rosa Pryor Music Scholarship, where I won a 1st place trophy and $1,000 towards my musical pursuits and was featured in The Afro Baltimore newspaper. I also won second place in the Omega Psi talent show held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum.

In November of 2013 Mr. Ferrell helped me prepare for a performance at Ridley Run Performance Center to feed homeless at Thanksgiving where i landed front page recognition of the Howard County times performing behind the drum set. In addition I had two great opportunities to perform at Music & Arts: Mr Ferrell student recital as well as Mr. Dave Gorrie’s Student Guitar Recital. Studying with Chuck helped me maintain my skills as a percussionist in Howard High School’s Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble for which I had a consistent A average.

My lessons included access to many resources outside the practice room including listening materials, musical literature, and an opportunity to study and perform Jazz with Greg Thompkins. My lessons with Chuck Ferrell have increased my passion for playing and sparked my interest in music theory. I enjoyed every lesson and will deeply miss coming in learns more technique, practice new ideas, create new rhythms and study other drummers.

Respectfully yours,

Sydney N. Y.
